Will your presentation have the same impact online?

You worked for more than five hours to create a great slide show with the right animation effects, music and timings. Now it's time to share your spectacular work with your friends, students, offices located in different parts of the world. Still doing it the conventional way and sending your 40 Mb presentation as an attachment with email? Probably the fear of loosing animations, sound and timings is not letting you try online PowerPoint sharing websites.

Share Button Removed in Private Presentation Embeds

We've updated the presentation player for private presentations at authorSTREAM. Now the "share" button will not be visible at the end of your private presentations embedded on your blog or website. However, you as the owner of your presentation, will be able to share your private presentations from within your authorSTREAM console. Here's a screenshot showing only the "Replay" option:

Resizing the embed player

We’ve noticed that some users feel it difficult to resize the embed player to fit in their blog posts or websites. We will be coming up soon with a standard size for the embed player so that it fits well in most blogs and websites. A temporary solution is to make changes in width and height in the embed code. All you have to do is to make changes in width and height at two places.

To get better results make adjustments to width and height in such a way that they remain in the same proportion (Height=Width*5/6). For example width="299" height="250”, width="358" height="299" etc.

Embed not working?

We also had queries from few users regarding authorSTREAM embed not working on some blogs. authorSTREAM embed code doesn’t work on WordPress, Yahoo groups, Yahoo 360 because they modify original embed code.

We contacted Yahoo in this regard and following is their reply:

" Thank you for your report of this issue. Due to the recent announcement on transitioning Yahoo! 360, the development team is focusing all of its resources on building a new universal Yahoo! Profile with blogging solutions which we are certain will delight you. Because we are focusing our efforts on the new solution, this bug will not be resolved prior to the transition of Yahoo! 360."

Easy Registration, Sharing, Delete Option and Better Audio

We have updated! Here is what just changed on authorSTREAM:

Registration is now easy

Now you can upload your presentation on authorSTREAM easier than ever, as we made some major changes in the registration process. From now on you don’t have to wait for the activation mail to arrive in your mailbox and activate your account. Right after filling out the registration form you can start uploading your PPT presentations and share it with others, or use it in your blog.

However you will receive a welcome e-mail after registration. In this mail we welcome you on authorSTREAM, and give some options for you to start uploading your presentations, complete your profile or import friends. But of course we pay attention for frauds and your privacy. If somebody else registered with your e-mail account then you have the possibility to delete this account right away easily from a link in the welcome mail.

Delete option has been added

Another option in authorSTREAM has been added that provides you the option to delete your account any time. If you decide to delete your account, all your presentations and contacts will be erased from authorSTREAM and won’t be accessible any more.

Sharing presentations is now easier

We also enhanced the “My Uploaded Presentations” page so now you can easily share your presentations from within your console as an embed, URL or thumbnail - just copy and paste. You don’t need to open the presentation page for it any more.

Better audio in the presentation player

Here are the player-level changes:

• The loop option is enhanced, so if you have a longer *transition* music/sound in your presentation it can be played through your whole presentation, and you can set your preferences in PowerPoint if it will be played just once, or repeat it for the whole time of the show.
• We made some changes also at the back-end of the player, so the loading time is decreased when you are using the same transition sound on many pages.
  

We hope that these changes help you to get a better user experience in uploading, sharing and viewing presentations on authorSTREAM.

Embedded Audio, Transition Sounds, Office 2007 now Supported

We announce the following new features on authorSTREAM for PowerPoint presentations:

* Support for Microsoft Office 2007 - authorSTREAM now accepts .pptx and .ppsx PowerPoint file extensions.
* Embedded audio (.wav) in slides is now supported
* Transition sounds (.wav) are now supported
* Hyperlinks are now click-able in slides
* Easy slide changing by clicking in either half of the slide for previous and next options, without getting in the way of hyperlinks.

Known Issues

One issue that we have faced (in the Firefox browser) and are working upon is a lag in audio-play in slides, which contain a heavy audio file. The mouse cursor also sometimes disappears as the slide-audio is loading. In the presentation above, the 4th slide contains an embedded audio (.wav) file, which works fine in Internet Explorer but could sometimes not work smoothly in Firefox.
