A letter to my father

The Little Boy Found
William Blake (from Songs of Innocence, 1791)

The little boy lost in the lonely fen,
Led by the wand’ring light,
Began to cry, but God ever nigh,
Appeard like his father in white.

He kissed the child & by the hand led
And to his mother brought,
Who in sorrow pale, thro’ the lonely dale
Her little boy weeping sought.

Just like God, who appeared as a heavenly rather than earthly father, comforted a child and protected him, you too, dad, came in my life, protected me, kept me from going astray, and ensured that I always stay on the right path.

Dad, you held my hand when I was barely able to walk, embraced all my problems as if they were your own. You held me tight when I felt weak and gave me all the strength I needed to solve my problems.

I’ll always love you, cherish you, and will always be by your side, holding your hand tight the way you held mine when I was small.

Happy Father’s Day!
