Shhhhh!!! Halloween is here and so are THEY!

Two things I did on Hallows Night:—
Made my house April-clear;
Left open wide my door
To the ghosts of the year.

Then one came in. Across the room
It stood up long and fair—
The ghost that was myself—
And gave me stare for stare.

All Hallows Night, by Lizette Woodworth Reese

Curiosity kills the cat. Come Halloween, we start going around hunting for ghosts at mansions and cemeteries commonly dubbed as ‘haunted’. We expect a little ‘frightful fun’ but what starts as a joke often ends in a tragedy.

We did a quick web search on real-life haunted destinations and came across some places known for strange sightings and paranormal occurrences that have stood the test of time. Take for example the Blickling Hall in England where a woman was beheaded on false charges of adultery. People have sighted the woman’s headless ghost arriving at Blickling Hall in a carriage drawn by headless horseman.

Tragic death awaited every family who came to live at Monte Cristo Homestead in Australia. A pregnant servant fell to her death from a balcony while another servant was burnt to death. Congelier Mansion located at 1129 Ridge Avenue in Pennsylvania is said to be the most haunted place in America. Long after an enraged wife brutally killed her husband for cheating her and chopped off his mistress’ head, people still claim to hear the screaming and sobbing of a woman there.

Inspite of gut instinct warning us not to enter these doomed places, we often do the opposite. Sam, a banisher of ghosts, also made the same mistake. He bought a mansion that had the notorious reputation of being haunted by a tormented spirit Sifty-Sifty-San. Sam thought he could banish this ghost too like many others. How wrong he was…
