Keep calm. Black Friday is here!
Or is it the Black Thursday?
Yet again, the biggest retailers have decided to throw open their doors on the Thanksgiving Day itself. No, they will not wait for midnight as they did in 2012. Or 8 pm as J.C. Penney and Macy’s did last year. It’s 5 pm on Thanksgiving evening for Best Buy and J.C. Penney this year while Wal-Mart, Kohl’s and Macy’s are opening at 6 pm. What will happen next year!
The doorbuster deals too are up for grabs on Thursday itself. According to researcher Market Track, there are a total of 86 laptops and tablets for sale at big, fat discounts on Thanksgiving compared with just nine on Black Friday.
Those who choose to stay with their family on the Thanksgiving and feast on turkey in dinner might be left disappointed with leftovers till Friday. Thanksgiving is now poised to be the biggest shopping day of the year and hence the new Black Friday!
Get ready for some mind boggling numbers. Did you know that Walmart completed greater than 10 million register sales between 6 pm and 10 pm on Thanksgiving evening last year! Here’s another baffling Black Friday fact from last year: A whopping 225,000,000 people shopped on Black Friday last year. And 11,400,000,000 is the number of dollars spent then (hope we didn’t miss any zero here).
The desperate shoppers have become violent too at times. Shockingly, the Black Friday frenzy has resulted in 7 deaths and 9 injuries so far.
