May be the reason I survive
The why and wherefore I’m alive
The one I’ll care for through the rough in ready years
Me, I’ll take her laughter and her tears
And make them all my souvenirs
For where she goes I’ve got to be
The meaning of my life is… She
These beautiful lyrics from the song “She” by Elvis Costello bring the face of the most special woman in your life flashing in front of your eyes. For some, that face may be that of their mother, for some that of their sweetheart, and for some Julia Roberts (after all, the song is the soundtrack of the romantic flick Notting Hill!)
International Women’s Day, which falls on March 8 every year, is the day to celebrate women’s achievements. From Marie Curie to Mother Teresa, Emily Dickinson to Indira Gandhi, Maya Angelou to Oprah Winfrey, women have inspired others with their hard work and perseverance. Here’s a presentation by Gorg Sciberras, an active authorSTREAM member, honoring some of the women in history who changed the world and the way the world looked at women:
International Women’s Day is also the day to clamour for women equality in all areas of life- be it health, education, sports, politics, etc. Though we have made progress in this regards since the first International Women’s Day celebration in 1911, a lot still needs to be done. But foremost, we have to rally for the cause of greater respect for women. Here’s a beautiful tribute to women all over the world by Nubiagroup and a worthy attempt to answer the question: Why Women are so special?
Wishing all our beautiful readers a Happy International Women’s Day. Reiterating the words of Mae Carol Jemison, the first African American woman to travel in space, “Don’t let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It’s your place in the world; it’s your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live.”
